Gondar was capital of Ethiopia from 1636 to the mid-19th century. You can imagine Gondar in its glory days when you visit the royal enclosure, Gondar’s architectural and physical masterpiece; a fortified medieval stone castle that was built by King fascilidas. Another point of interest is Fasil bath, a pool which was used by Emperor Fasil. In recent days it’s used to celebrate the colorful Timkat festival. Last but not least you will visit a lavishly painted and historical church of Debre Birhan sillassie.
Buckle up for a 100kms drive to one of Ethiopia's awe-inspiring mountain scenery. At the small town of Debarq, the park’S head quarter we collect our receipts to the park, scout and a local guide.Our driver drops us at Chinkwanit tail head where your thrilling hike to Simien Mountains a UNESCO registered world heritage site starts. From here you will hike 3-4 hours to Sankaber. You will have lunch at a scenic spot.
You will leave your hotel with a picnic lunch. From here we will hike to the scenic Jimbar fall admiring breathtaking landscape. And continue hiking to Chenneck. If you are lucky we can spot Walia Ibex, a bovid endemic to the country and the park. The beautiful view point of chennek is every photographer’s dream. Late afternoon, drive back to Gondar for overnight.
After breakfast, drive 42 kms to the 11th century cave monastery of Yimrhana Kristos. Which was built by King Yimrhana Kirstos, the brother of King Lalibela. 80 years before the rock hewn churches of Lalibela was carved by King Lalibela. Its main structure built with alternating layers of wood and white gypsum, and its style is the best example of Aksumite architecture. Next drive to Lalibela in time for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the second group of rock hewn churches including Bete Giorgis. With a cruciform shape, Bete Giorgis is the finely carved of all Lalibela rock hewn churches.
