The ancient walled city of Harar; the Holy City of Ethiopia’s Muslim Community (reputed to be the fourth holiest city after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem) contains approximately 85 Mosques three of which date back to the 10th century and 102 shrines.
The multicolored townhouses with their exceptional and ornate interior designs constitute the most spectacular part of Harar’s cultural heritage. Harar was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. As dusk falls, the famous Hyena men emerge to feed wild hyenas' raw meat from their mouths, which has been an ongoing popular tourist attraction for decades.
In the morning fly to Diredawa. Harar is the fourth Islamic holy city also inscribed by UNESCO. Then transfer to Harar. In the morning visit in the walled city part, shrines, mosques, museums, the glass house of the famous French poet Rimbaud’s, and the colorful market.
In the evening visit the hyena man’s performance; an astonishing experience whereby a person feeding hyenas by his hand and/or mouth.
In the morning visit continue with the city tour activity. In the afternoon transfer to Dire Dawa to visit the old railway station and vibrant market.
Fly back to Addis In the afternoon spend at leisure or go for shopping or optionally you will do partial city tour of Addis. Transfer to the airport if you have international flight “End of the tour".
