Ankober was once the ancient capital of Shoa (Ethiopia) and is an important historical region. Ankober Palace Lodge is built in traditional styles on the same ground of Emperor Menelik's original palace in Ankober. It is situated on top of a hill with spectacular wide-reaching views over the famous Rift Valley.
In the morning drive to Ankober, the former seat of the Shewan kings and is located 150km.northeast of Addis Ababa. Ankober had served as a tent capital for six Shewan kings. The palace ruin attributed to king Menelik, several churches rich in paintings and manuscripts, along with the splendid geographical feature are awesome assets of Ankober.
From the summit of Ankober Palace Lodge you can clearly see the separation point of the highland part of Ethiopia from the rift valley gorge. Enjoy the view of the surrounding superb landscape.
