Located north of Lake Tana on the Lesser Angereb River and southwest of the Simien Mountains, Gondar was founded by Emperor Fasiladas in 1635. The town is famous for its many medieval castles and churches.
The Simien Mountains, which include Ras Deshen (Ethiopia's highest mountain), are located in the north-western corner of the country. Now a world heritage site, the Simiens boast some of Africa's most stunningly beautiful mountain scenery.
Catch the morning flight to Gondar. In Gondar your local guide and driver welcomes you at the airport. After a briefing about your short tour is given by your guide, then buckle up for a stunning 100kms (3 hours) drive to the small town of Debarq, the park’S head quarter where we collect our receipts to the park and a local guide.
After lunch we will drive 36 kms (1-1:30 hours) to chilkuanit. Here you will get dropped to start your thrilling 2 hours Simein trek to Sanakaber camp. At 3200 masl this trek helps you a great deal to acclimatize. Simien Mountain is one of Ethiopian awe inspiring tourist destinations. Now you will witness this while hiking close to the edge of the escarpment enjoying the view of this stupendous mountain range.
After breakfast, have a short hike to Buahit to see Walia. Then drive 3 hours back to Gondar arriving in time for a quick lunch. Afternoon you will visit highlights of the city including the famous 17th century castle compound, Fasil bath and Debre Birhan sillassie church.
Late afternoon you will catch your flight back to Addis where your trip will come to an end.
